Working Group for Northern Region Air Connectivity Meets to Discuss "Connecting Porto & North" Program

On Tuesday, September 3rd, the Working Group for Air Connectivity in the Northern Region met at the headquarters of Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Norte (CCDR-N) with the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, to present and discuss the proposed "Connecting Porto & Norte" program.

The initiative aims to strengthen the air connectivity of the Northern Region by attracting new routes and airlines to strategic destinations that promote regional exports and foster tourism development in key long-haul markets such as North America and East Asia. Additionally, the program is designed to attract investment and strengthen ties with the Portuguese diaspora.

The proposal also seeks to consolidate the influence of Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport across the entire northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, positioning it as a key infrastructure for the cohesion and competitiveness of the Galicia-Northern Portugal Euroregion.

The meeting gathered prominent figures, including the President and Vice-President of CCDR-N, António Cunha and Jorge Sobrado, the President of the Northern Regional Council, Nuno Vaz, the Mayor of Maia, António Silva Tiago, the Councillor of Câmara Municipal do Porto, Catarina Santos Cunha, the President of Associação Empresarial de Portugal (AEP), Luís Miguel Ribeiro, and the Vice-President of the Associação Comercial do Porto, Álvaro Costa.

The Board of the Porto and North of Portugal - Convention & Visitors Bureau was represented by the Director of Porto International Airport, Rui Alves, and our General Operations Director, Susana Ribeiro.
