On August 1st, the ClusterTur Galiza-Norte de Portugal project was successfully launched at the Museum of the Sea in Vigo.
This innovative tourism initiative aims to strengthen public-private collaboration in the Galiza-Norte de Portugal Euroregion, marking a significant milestone in cross-border cooperation.
This event featured the presence of Luís Pedro Martins, President of Porto and North of Portugal Tourism Board, António Cunha, President of Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Norte, Nuno Almeida, Director of Eurorregião Galicia - Norte de Portugal (AECT), and Jesús Gamallo, Director of External Relations with the European Union of the Xunta de Galicia.
ClusterTur, part of the Interreg Espanha-Portugal (POCTEP), is a pivotal opportunity to align strategies, identify resources, and promote the Euroregion as a sustainable tourism destination. A key focus is enhancing the Caminhos de Santiago, positioning our region as a unified destination for international travelers. These projects are only possible through the dedicated efforts of tourism companies, the true key players in any region’s economic development.
According to Luís Pedro Martins, the project’s potential is transformative, as this first tourism cluster in the Euroregion allows both territories to present themselves more competitively to long-haul markets, embracing the idea of two countries, one destination.
Portugal is a key player in this endeavor, being the top tourist source for Galiza, with a significant increase in tourist activities and engagement this year.
