The Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe) again puts Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport on the list of the best on the European continent. This year's edition brought a new category and highlighted the facilities that best adopted hygienic measures to fight Covid-19. And so, Porto’s Airport takes off for another honor in its belt.
The honor for “Best Airport” is made according to the size in the European region of the airports, with Porto sharing the prize with Faro Airport in the category between 5 and 15 million passengers.
The “Hygiene Award” is a novelty in this edition and the objective is to recognize the airports’ capacity to ensure hygienic and safe environments and keeping the necessary measures to meet the needs and expectations of passengers.
"The Covid-19 pandemic had a dramatic impact on global passenger traffic in 2020, as well as changing customer perceptions and expectations regarding the airport experience", says the ACI, in a statement.
For the director general of ACI World, Luís Felipe de Oliveira, "the awards show the focus of the award-winning airports in offering excellent experiences, by being exemplary".
Thierry Liggonière, director of ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, also stresses the importance of this recognition. “In a year of uncertainty, our staff has been showing commitment and resilience. We were able to adapt and innovate, reinvent ourselves ensuring the protection of all, for all”.
The director believes that “these awards show that we are on the right path for the resumption of the aviation market, with the necessary confidence in the new passenger experience”.
The Airports Council International Europe awards recognize European airports every year, looking for examples of excellence in the continuous investment in the experience and safety of passengers this time also within the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The ACI awards were awarded within the scope of the international ASQ program, Quality of Airport Services, which measures passengers' overall satisfaction with the services and products offered. This is not the first time that Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is among the best in Europe.
